Been in family since purchase 1970
Dear Jens,
Thank you for contacting us once again with another appraisal inquiry.
The item presented appears to be a large abstract composition by the Cuban American artist called Hugo de Soto (b. 1928). The overall frame measures 65 cm x 59 cm and is signed on the lower right where some scratches are visible. The reverse reads “3” as well as “Verona, Notte di Gala”. According to the information provided, this work was once shown in Denmark, where Hugo de Soto lived and worked in the 1970s.
This Postwar artist has been part of several international exhibitions such as the Salon d’Automne in Paris, the International Graphic Exhibition in New York City and the Vatican Library in Rome.
However, after checking our records it seems that his particular artist is rarely offered on the auction market. Therefore, the estimate highlighted in red has been based according to the following criteria, which are the most recent existing auction market, the subject work’s size, the composition and the condition based on photographs and comments provided.
In many cases, please note that pricing for similar items available on the primary (retail) market vary and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
Best regards,
Karine
