I don't know much about this. I bought it from a yard sale in 2019. The person I bought it from said he bought it at an estate sale around 1970-1980. It is exactly 10inches by 30inches in size and approximately 23 inches tall. It weighs approximately 25-30lbs. Solid wood, no markings at all - the base is plain. The paint appears to be gold paint and not gold leaf - it appears rubbed off in spots, but not flaked off. It has several large cracks and a piece of the jaw is missing on the bottom. I am not sure who the figure represents or what the creature is.

This is a carved and painted wooden statuette of the bodhisattva Quan Yin atop a fu dog (guardian lion). The subject is related to Buddhist legends. It is likely from Western China or Tibet.
There is damage in the wood in places, likely from humidity fluctuation and natural aging of materials. The faded gold on the black-painted wood creates an attractive patina. This piece probably dates from the 20th century and is a reproduction of pieces from the 19th or 18th century.
Based on sales of similar items, the Fair Market Value of this piece is between $40 and $80.
