hand carved wooden chair
Owned and collected by my mother. She used to say this was a king's chair.
Dear Greg,
Thank you for your request. This is a hall chair in neo-renaissance style. The chair is probably made out of nut wood and is carved with the excessive decor. The legs or the subbase construction is carved with grotesqueness and lion pats. Grotesqueness are animals which have the lower part of a body and are a lead stylistic of the Renaissance. The backrest is carved with leaf masks and scrollwork. the chair seems to be in a good condition and no damages are visible. This chair was made in the last third of the 19th century.
An estimate would be between 300 and 900 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
