The scarf is extraordinary in detail, colour and design. I am really amazed at how much work that has been put into this handmade beautifully stitched silk scarf. I am a bit confused about the age as you write it was bought from new - by the design and look I would assume that it dates from the early 1900s. This was the era when this particular style and technique was very fashionable and modern.
As for the price, I do understand that it was immensly expensive when first bought, I am afraid that a second hand value of several thousands dollars when sold privately would not be possible, however I believe that it would attract the attention of both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction. And that a selling price could surprise in a positive direction. The appraisal is conditional as I am uncertain of the age, however the appraisal is based on the scarf being from the early 1900s.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online vintage clothing and accessories auction, where I believe the scarf has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to your mothers beautiful scarf. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
