Hello Nick,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Chinese Made Oriental Style Rug, dating back to the period between 1970-1990. These piece were the products from the Chinese weaving ateliers established to reproduce Oriental hand knotted rugs to compete in the Western Market. Western Market's demand was mostly met by Turkish, Persian, Afghan and Persian type productions from India or Pakistan at the time. These pieces were considerably more affordable in comparison to Persian or Turkish Pieces. Their style also has some motifs of Chinese origin as we can also observe on your piece. Your piece has a floral decoration with a central medallion. The colour palette is contemporary and chosen to fit in a modern home. The central medallian is decorated florally and the external decoration is characterized by the flowers and Chinese style chains linking the flowers to eachother. Dark tones of Ivory, Black, Yellow and Tones of brown were used on this composition. The knot density is vergae to the period and characteristic to Chinese productions. Knotted wool on cotton. The piece is in good condition without any significant sign of use.
Entirely hand knotted.
