Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and thank you for the additional photos.
It is a lovely and very unique doll. Such vintage dolls are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The doll was made in the late 1800s around 1880-1900 as you suggested, it is made of wood and the hair appears to be real human hair. It is very detailed and quite large/tall too. I believe this doll was made on request by a gifted toymaker that produced unique toys on request. Today the dolls that obtain the very high prices at auction are character dolls made in France or Germany with porcelain head. Your doll is most certainly a collectors item however I am not sure how many collectors there are to wooden dolls.
The condition of the doll appears to be very good with only few signs of use after having been played with. I believe that this doll would attract the attention of both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction and also could surprise pricewise in your favour. This is why there is a large gap in the estimate.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online toys auction, where I believe the doll has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the unique doll. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
The doll is 15" tall
These are the clothes that came with the doll. I believe they may be original but I do know they are quite old. Wondering if they make the doll more valuable.
Thank you for the additional information and photos. The clothes does add to the value however I have given an estimate with a wide gap and even with the original clothes the estimate will still be the same.
Kind regards
thank you!
