20 x 29 3/4 poster in perfect condition framed. Does not look like posters that I have seen. On the reverse in the lower left corner is a penciled number "1398". Purchased at an estate sale in Banning, CA.
Estate sale from Big Bear Lake California. Anything further unknown. Just a nice piece I collect.
The appraised work is a lithograph poster in colors originally printed in 1949 by Mourlot based on a 1947 composition by French artist Henri Matisse (1869-1954). The image depicts a still life of fruit on a table with a window in the background with a stylized tree visible in the background. Matisse's oeuvre is quite vast and varied, having worked in painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic arts (as diverse as etchings , linocuts, lithographs , and aquatints ), paper cutouts, and book illustration. His subject matter was also diverse, as he created landscapes, still lifes, portraits, domestic and studio interiors. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's size, composition, medium and condition (based on images provided), as well as the artist's current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar examples available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
