This blue and white ceramic jar is hexagonal and measures 9 and 3/4 inches tall by 6 and 3/4 inches wide. It is decorated with cabbage and roses and maybe chrysanthemums. It has a lid and is marked Canton underneath.
This is from a liquidation of an antique store.
This is a blue white “qīng-huā” ceramic jar from China. It appears to be shaped like a guard, and the cover and knob look like the top and branch of a pumpkin. The style in which the flower patterns are painted places it in the 20th century. It is probably export ware.
Because the shape is unusual for this type of jar, it could be more attractive to buyers. There are small imperfections on one side near the bottom. These might be able to be removed with scrubbing, but it is hard to know from the photo. Besides that, it seems to be in very good condition. Based on sales of similar items, this piece’s Fair Market Value is between $30 and $60.
Interesting. Thank you! And are you saying it is shaped like a gourd? Thank you for the information, Leah.
