Hi Hattie,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The Heywood-Wakefield model M-1553-A, commonly known as the “Cat’s Eye” dining chair, was introduced between 1947 and 1950. This model is notable for its distinctive inverted double-bow backrest, which resembles the shape of a cat’s eye, hence the nickname. The M-1553-A chairs are highly regarded for their comfort and elegant design, making them one of the most iconic pieces produced by Heywood-Wakefield during the mid-century modern era. They were often paired with matching dining tables and were finished in the company's signature "Wheat" or "Champagne" finishes, as are your chairs.
While dealers may be able to sell these "Cat's Eye" chairs for between $250 and $350 (what would be considered a RETAIL price) per chair, when these have been sold at auction recently, they usually sell for between $150 and $250 per chair.
