Original watercolor paintings given to me by a wealthy employer
Given to me by a Mrs. Constance Rash in 1993 in tequesta, Florida
This is a vintage watercolor painting that depicts scenes from the Church of St. Thomas in Chichecastenango in Guatemala (note, not Guatenala). The works are initialed CFS and there is a date of 1944 written in marker on the backside. The inscription on the backside is from the later 20th century as the magic marker was not yet invented in 1944. The first image is too blurry to determine if this is indeed original or provide insight into the depictions. 'A pagan shrine' refers to the fact that the Spanish Catholic religious conquests there are also still mixed with Mayan pagan rituals. The town square in Chichecastenango outside of the St. Thomas church is well known for its market where vendors sell cultural wares and souvenirs to tourists. This is most likely a souvenir piece from a street vendor artist who sold at the market. The estimate is based on one picture, though the posting implies there is more than one painting.
