Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful teaset made of silver. Such antique teasets are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The set was made by the American silvermakers J. E. Caldwell & Co based in Philadelphia. It was made in the last part of the 1800s. It is an excessive set with a lovely simple but elegant design and decoration. It is easy to appraise without the set being polished however if you consider selling it I would suggest that you carefully polish it as the look of the set clean and polished would attract more attention from both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction.
It appears to be in very good condition based on the photos. This is important when pricing items for auction.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised silver auction, where I believe the excessive Caldwell teaset has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the lovely teaset. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
Ok just found some scales . The entire set weighs 7.3kgs (16.094 lbs)
I’m just wondering if I should look to having the set polished or is it better to leave it as is?
Any update on this?
Measurements for the tray are on the pic. 46x61cm
I don’t have a set of scales in the house at the moment so I’ll try and get the weight for you tomorrow
