What does this mean?

Dear Patrick,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the apprisal.

The presented object appears to be a Japanese display word that was made for decorative purposes and not for fighting. It was probably made as a souvenir in the 20th century. The details of the workmanship, stylistics and the fact that it is stamped with the word "Japan" are arguments for young dating.
A fair market estimation would be between 30 to 60 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
George
