What does this mean?

Hello, this item is a Japanese-style katana sword measuring approximately 43 inches in total length. The blade bears visible kanji inscriptions near the tang, indicating either a smith’s name or a reference to the sword’s school of production. However, the overall construction, fittings, and patina suggest this is a later 20th-century replica rather than an original traditionally forged nihonto. The tsuba (handguard) and habaki (blade collar) appear cast and machine-fitted, while the blade lacks the typical folding pattern and hamon (temper line) expected in hand-forged Japanese steel.

The piece shows age wear and rusting along the handle and tang, with oxidation present on the surface of the blade. Its style resembles export or decorative swords commonly made in Japan or Southeast Asia for collectors and military souvenirs. Despite not being an authentic samurai-era katana, it remains a collectible example of postwar craftsmanship. Based on visual inspection and comparable sales of vintage replica katanas, its fair market value ranges between 150 and 300 USD, depending on condition and material authenticity.
