Japanese swords
17 September 2019
Description

These were given to my father when stationed in Japan in the 60’s or 70’s from a general in the Japanese military. I did some research and couldn’t find anything like them.

What does this mean?

This display is made in Japan and it is supposed to show the Samurai weapons and ornaments of the Momoyama period and Edo period (1600-1868) tsuba. These are reproductions though made in second half 20th century.
On the right are models of old coins, I see a koban and a 'cow tongue' piece of gold. The swords are called Wakizashi or short sword. Estimation is a little difficult. Its made for decorative purposes and not for real use. Samurai speak to the imagination of people and adds to the value I believe. My estimation takes this in consideration.
