What does this mean?

Hello Terry,
I’m glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal request,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, painting quality and the composition,
I concluded that this is a Satsuma Style Japanese vase from 1980's. The mark underneath probably reads as "Made in Japan" since even the later Chinese porcelain was usually marked with red colour. But in this case the origin is less relevant but the style is more important, which is Satsuma. The painting materials and the quality is really poor. This can even hardly be considered as touristic quality. Also the ceramic quality seems low, it probably has a stone or plaster feeling. One side of the piece has floral decoration with embossed white paint on it. White embossed paint is used all over the decoration.

Front of the piece has a depiction of everyday life in Japan. Picturing mainly a woman wearing a kimono. Neck of the piece is also decorated with flowers and embossed paint. But this embossed paint is used in a very careless and amateur way and probably only aimed to enhance the looks of the piece as a touristic item. Base of the piece has some geometrical models which can not be related to Satsuma design in general. Additionally, nec has a golden circle painted around it.

Dimensions: Height is 12 ⁷/⁸ Inches Tall, Circumference of the vase is 18 Inches, Circumference of base is 12 Inches.

Condition: In need of restoration, rim was broken and glued. Handles shows signs of cracks. Overall condition is poor.

Provenance: Inherited

Hand painted entirely but in a below average quality.
