Japanese WWII Officers Sword
Blade 27" long, shark bone (I believe) handle 11" long. My father was in the early occupation forces in japan in 1945 in Sendai. He was there a while, an officer (1st Lt) and quite the straight arrow, so eventually he ended up as an MP armed with a sidearm that escorted the whiskey and payroll on the train each week to and from Sendai to Tokyo or somewhere like that). At some point he befriended some Japanese and they gave him the swords. We know nothing else about them, I have had them for years and they need to go to a good home.
It came straight from Japan via US Army after WWII with my Dad. No idea of previous history, but it's documented that he was there as he was an active duty US Army officer.

The presented object appears to be a Japanese WW II period officers sword. After the capitulation, many of these swords which were a part of the regular uniform of officers of the Imperial Japanese Army came into the possession of US soldiers. Sometimes the swords have older blades.
This piece is in good to medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 700 to 1000 USD.
