My father bought it at a garage sale in 1952, it's 42 1/2 inches tall and 62 1/2 wide from outside the frame. It's in need of a cleaning. Not sure of the material, it's most likely canvas, the back side is soft if not almost a little velvety to the touch.

Hello Jason,
Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. I apologize for the delay in your appraisal and thank you for your patience. The item presented appears to be Japanese decorative wall hanging. Medium cannot be firmly determined based on the photos provided. However, the object appears to be gouache and ink painting on a textured ground. The scene appears to depict a flowering tree and visiting birds, a common depiction in East Asian artworks. The inscription to the left could not be translated. However, these inscriptions are typically poems or proverbs relating to the scene depicted. The signature appears to read Kamitsuki Motoyama. We were unable to attribute this to a specific artist. That is likely because the work was likely produced in an artisan house for export. The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of comparable objects in similar dimensions and dating to the 20th century. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
