1998 painting by Jean Pierre Rousseau. Dimensions approx 34" x 20". appears to be acrylic and pastels but am sure. Appears to be in very good condition, unframed.
I purchased this from an estate sale, it was originally in a gallery in La Jolla California as his only representation in the United States.
Dear Daniel,
Thank you for your request. The presented object is a painting made in mixed media (acryl and pastel) on canvas with the measurements 20 x 32 inches. It depicts a dancing couple or ballet and is signed J. P. Rousseau and dated 1998. The French artist Jean-Pierre ROUSSEAU (1939) painted mainly city views and genre scenes.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 150 to 300 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
Could you please let me know which auction you are referring to that his art sold for this?
Dear Daniel,
I am sorry for your disappointment. We use the common databases which all auction houses and art dealer use. They list all sold objects in the last years. Gallerie prices are often much higher then hammer prices in auction houses.
I list you as examples some of the last reached auction prices:
Amadeus Auction (Austria), 24 Nov 2018, Hammer price: $ 1,083
Millon & Associés SAS (France), 09 Jun 2017, Hammer price: $ 223
Drouot Estimations (France), 13 Oct 2017, Hammer price: $ 23
You can see the wide range these painting of Jean Pierre Rousseau reach as hammer prices. Mostly they are sold under 300 USD but some with outstanding motifs reach higher hammer prices.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hey Georg, i dont believe this is correct. Ive done a lot of research on this artist and is very highly regarded in Europe. His Art originally sold for 15-17 thousand dollars in galleries and they are currently building a museum in his name is Italy.
