Dear Jeff,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and I wish you a Happy New Year 2022. My sincere apologies for the huge delay with the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a pair of US. cavalry swords from the middle or second half of the 19th century. Both sword come with their scabbard. The smaller sword is an U.S. Model 1860 light cavalry sword and the other sword remind in its conseption to the U.S. Model 1840 heavy cavalry sword but the bars of the hand guard are flatter.
These pieces are in very bad condition and there isserious damage like corrosion visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 50 to 150 USD each.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
