Found this oil on board painting in family keepsake box. Family immigrated from England in 1846. Paint feels raised, and appears to be crackled in areas. It’s measurements are. 7 3/4” by 10 1/2”
Inherited from the Charles Sharratt from England. Became a US Citizen in 1846
Dear Susan - Thank you for taking the time to submit your painting to Mearto. I am pleased to be able to assist you. May I request that you upload one more image of the uppuer right corner. I'd like a clear image of the flaking in that area if you don't mind. Thank you very much.
Most Sincerely: Erin-Marie @Rare-Era
Hello there Susan - The image of the corner that I'd requested will verify this but I think you have a 19th century oil painting over a print. I've handled a couple of these pieces and they are quite decorative. It would have been the perfect way for someone to have an inexpensive but impressive 'painting'. One of my expert associates suggested that this may be a Hanfstaengl print of a painting by Wilhelm Carl Räuber which has been over-painted. In the auction market these usually sell in the $150 - $200 range. Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions and have a wonderful evening.
Kind Regards,
Erin-Marie
Last question, I can tell that there is faded lettering on the label on the back, can you make out the words or send another image of the label too?
