What does this mean?

Hi Richard,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

Johann Haviland (often misspelled “Johan Havilen”) is a brand of fine porcelain dinnerware associated with the famous Haviland & Co. tradition.

The Haviland porcelain tradition began with David Haviland, who established porcelain production in Limoges in the mid-19th century. Limoges porcelain became world-renowned for its white, translucent body, fine glaze and delicate decoration.

The Johann Haviland name was later used (primarily in the mid-20th century) for porcelain dinnerware made in Germany, often marked “Johann Haviland Bavaria Germany.” Although connected historically to the Haviland family name, these wares were mass-produced table services rather than the earlier hand-decorated French Limoges pieces.

Johann Haviland introduced the Blue Garland pattern in 1974; it was manufactured in Bavaria and remained in production into the 1980s.

Even though your set is in pristine condition and the serving pieces retain their original boxes, most Johann Haviland services can bring only a few dollars PER PIECE, though retail websites such as Replacements.com can ask for higher prices.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

I couldn't tell from the photos how many plates etc you had so if the piece count is different than what I've listed above please let me know so I can amend the appraisal accordingly.
