Carved back, dark stained wood, 35" tall, 18 1/2 wide in the seat. Original seat covering was Horse Hair.
My Mother gave them to me in 1982 with a note attached that said, keep in the family. She wrote these chairs came across the Ocean from Germany to America with John P Frahm Sr. ( Grandfather of hers, Verna Kellogg). in 1870. The original covering was horse hair.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a pair of circa 1860 provincial Louis Philippe chairs, possibly from northern Germany. Such chairs are quite common at auctions today. In most cases they are too small for today´s generation and are therefore mainly used for home decor. The estimate is based on recent auction results in well advertised auction. There is no measurement for the sentimental you might attach to the item.
It is for the pair. If you have further information on the birthplace of your ancestor Johann P. Frahm (?) you might be able to find more of the same kind at auction or on ebay in that specific region.
Thank you for your prompt appraisal of my chairs.
Pleaase clarify if your estimate of value is per chair or both.
