The appraised work appears to be a watercolor and conte crayon or charcoal drawing by American artist Jonathan Green (b. 1955). The work depicts an abstracted and faceless seated figure and is signed and dated in pencil. Green was born in South Carolina and received his formal education from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1982. He is most well-known for capturing the everyday life of the Gullah people, the rural marshes and surrounding Sea Islands of South Carolina in a distinctive style often dubbed "narrative naturalism." This personal, narrative style allows the artist to capture and record his own experience but also the rich cultural heritage of the Gullah community of which he was raised.
