Hello Daniel,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Kotted Indian Oriental Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1980 to 2000. The piece is entirely florally decorated in style of Persian Kashan Rugs with interpretation of Indian origin as well as a contemporary pattern. The Kashan Rugs are one of the most famous city rugs in Iran, city rugs do have more knot density to them and therefore renders the motifs more clearly. Starting from the early 1960's Persian pieces strated to be replicated in Indian ateliers as well as Chinese and Pakistani in order to get a share from the demand fro Oriental Rugs in the Western market. This is an area rug designed with a different colour palette than those of traditional Kashan Rugs. The tones are in less natural tones and more industrial. The piece is centrally decorated with a central medallion which is quite modest with just a single circular floer motifs and surrounding four cloves. The piece's kot density is average to low for a Kashan style piece and therefore the motifs are rendered somewhat muddy. The floral decoration is duplicated and applied to the rest of the central area. The central area was decorated on dark blue base while the borders were decorated on a red base. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. The piece is in good condition without any visible problems.
