Good afternoon, Sheryl,
Thank you for submitting photos for appraisal. Are there any marks (perhaps underneath) that would give an idea of who made this? It appears to be a hot water pot on stand and probably silver-plate but - depending on value - there might be a broad value range for this. Can you look and attach a photo of any marks you see?
Thank you.
Goodmorning, I got a better look at item and found markings. It says James W. Tuffs Boston Quadrupley Plate and has number 2326 and anotger number 12378. Im sendind better pics also.
These are additional pics. One is of the markings.
Hi Sheryl,
Thank you very much for the additional information and photos. Tuffs was in business from 1875 - at least, that's when he filed his trademark. He made both triple-plate (3 layers of silver/copper) and quadruple-plate (4 layers). 2326 is the pattern number, 12378 is the piece number - it's a coffee/tea pot on stand. Worth about $25-45. Cleaning it gently with water/soap is better than using silver polish, which can erode the layers of silver and devalue it.
Great
..thank you.
I dont see any matkings inderneath. Itrm is old and covered with soot. Was going to polish but didnt want to take valur away.
