I'm told this is a King Charles Chair. Needs to be completely re-upholstered. Frame is solid.

Hi John,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
If you'd like for your appraisal to include dimensions, which is customary, please forward in the comments section - at your convenience - the height, width from the outside of each arm, and depth and I'll update this ASAP.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A provincial Victorian style carved walnut wing armchair
probably early 20th Century
With pierced frame upholstered in a green and orange chenille upholstery, the waisted back with wings continuing into arms over a circular seat raised on four square tapering legs.
(DIMENSIONS)
CONDITION: frame in need of reupholstery but appears to be sound otherwise, with wear commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: inherited
$150-250*

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
I can't speak for the upholstery house but I've followed the auction market for more than 20 years and this style/type of chair is very unpopular at the moment and typically sells well below $500 at auction, which are the values Mearto provides.
Of course, if there's information the upholstery house has on this particular chair that can better inform my evaluation, I'm always happy to consider it.
I believe you, but I'm wondering where they were coming from...?
That's not a low ball/high offer. That's them being waaaayyyyy off...
I'll reach out to them and see.
There's no expiration on appraisals - happy to re-evaluate whenever you have new information
Hmmm Went to a very reputable upholstery house in Houston and was told the frame alone was worth $5,000 which is why I didn't have it re-done...
