purchased in Toronto, mid 1970' from an antique dealer
A gilded bronze statue made of a Buddhist monk. Its hard to tell who it represents; it has little extra features like special clothes or attributes to determine the figure. It is made in Thailand in around 1920 / 1930 I believe. Its an impressive statue and it has good expression. These statues were made for use in Buddhist temples and were quite common. In the 1960ties and 1970ties it was still quite easy to export those statues from Thailand. Nowadays many countries protect their cultural heritage and its is prohibited to sell Thai antiques objects out of the country. Nice statue and there will be interest in the market to buy it if you would like to sell. Be aware to use an auction house with a prescription to an online platform like Invaluable or live auctioneers so that you have the international interest when selling.
