Beautiful, velvet, gold bead studded drawstring bag from France; lining appears to be made with gold, black, possibly silk threads; velvet is unlike anything I have ever seen-extremely soft, tightly woven, & highly saturated in color; bags is in near-excellent condition I was gifted this bag over 50 years ago & I believe that it was possibly 10-30 years old when I received it

Hi Elise,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The bucket bag shape was first introduced in the early 20th century but gained more recognition in the 1940s as a functional yet stylish handbag for women. The soft structure and drawstring closure made it practical for everyday use. This aligns with your timeline and I can easily believe it was made in France, though I've not found any other identical bags by listed couturiers who used that distinctive brass or gold beading on which to base an attribution.
Unattributed French bucket bags of comparable vintage have been selling at auction for between $50 and $75, with condition and provenance (history of ownership) playing a significant factor in determining whether a bag sells at one end of that range or another. (To give you some context, similar bags by listed designers have sold between $100 and $300 recently.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
