Ceramic Lady with Basket
Gifted from Great Grandmother from Italy
Though stylistically based on 18th century German Meissen porcelain figurines, this is an early 20th century, circa 1930, figural in what is likely tin glazed earthenware with hand painted surface decoration. Her face and the form of the base are the indicators to this being a 20th century figural. She is depicted as innocent yet it is risque. Seeing a view of the underside of this figural would help establish the material and may also yield a maker mark to be definitive of the producer and country of origin. The estimate is based on presuming this is a Continental piece that stands about 10" - 15" tall, is made of a majolica material and dating to about 1930.
