Lafonda? Sword
13 October 2020
Description

We’ve been told it’s French. Wondering if the script engraved on it is the name of the owner, maker or brand. Blade 19 1/2” long hilt? just shy of 5”. Double blood grooves. I have included in pics the sheath that came with it.

Dear Cynthia,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The presented object appears to be a French Model 1816 artillery short sword. It was made out of steel and brass for the hilt. The leather scabbard is damaged.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 150 to 350 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
Georg
