Hi Michael,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It's hard to tell the grain of the wood from the photos but tables of this kind were also often made with walnut or another fruitwood. These tables are handsome and still quite useful and make a nice statement in a hallway or living room. Most are selling for between $1,200 and $1,800 these days when offered at auction.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A Louis XV provincial carved walnut or mahogany library table
late 19th Century
The rectangular top with molded edge over a shaped relief-carved frame fitted with a single drawer, raised on tall cabriole legs.
(Height approximately 32 inches), width: 71-1/2 inches; depth: 29 inches
CONDITION: This appears to be in good condition given its age and probable use; acceptable wear would include minor scratches and surface abrasions (but not broken legs).
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 1,200-1,800*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
