34 1/2 inches long 2lbs 11.4oz Wooden handle wrapped Unsure of metal From what I can tell online it’s a Chinese Dadao sword from 1920-1940.
My dad owned it, use to have two of them but one was stolen from his bar. He said he got them from Vietnam.
Dear Dominique,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a Chinese Dao sword made out of steel, wood, and a cord attached to the handle. Such weapons came in great numbers to Western collections during the military campaigns of the Boxer Rebellion in China. The blade was lacquered golden which is highly possible a later addition.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 40 to 80 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
