Hello Mark,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, materials and the paintings, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Painted ceramic Urn With Lid. It is a decorative Urn Vase with hand painting scenes depicting natural and idyllic scenes. The ceramic urn's composition is enhanced by metal crowns and decorations. The piece adapts a very distinguished composition and a very familiar scene from the mythology as well as the ancient cultures. This composition is the "Day and Night", this day and night composition is constructed on a black painted base with depictions of a sun and a moon on opposite sides of the urn. The urn has two relief handles, one on each side. Between the sun and moon depictions we can detect a floral repeating pattern consist of pale purple flowers. The lid has a more elaborate decoration in comparison to rest of the piece. On the lid's decoration, there is an idyllic scene composed of lambs and a village house alongside countryside views. The piece dates from the period from 1940 to 1970. The base is also metal and the metals are decorated with filigree work. The metal is likely aluminum. The piece is in good condition without any visible problems.
