From my great grandparents, possibly from early 1900’s
This is an antique, early 20th century, hand painted tall porcelain vase. The vase would have been produced as a blank, or white ware, in Limoges, France. The D & Co France mark is for Delinieres and Co. The white ware or blank vase was then exported to the US to be decorated at the studios of Wilder Pickard China. Pickard was established in Edgerton, Wisconsin in 1893 and then moved to Chicago, Illinois around 1900. The Pickard mark on this was used from 1912 - 1918. At the Pickard Studios, blank or white wares were decorated by artists from the Art Institute of Chicago and European artists. Most of the decorators are unlisted even though many signed their last name. On yours, it is signed LeRoy. Pickard China is still in business to this day and their early pieces are sought after by collectors. Although the gold is real, there is no longer a precious metal meltdown value as the cost to extract the gold would exceed the value of the amount extracted. These are currently slumped on the market and they do not sell for as high as they used to sell for a few decades ago and just prior to the Recession. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
