Iron long sword with medallion . Rusted. Has cord wrapped around the handle.

Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The style of this sword is typical of European (English, German or Italian) arming swords or hand-and-a-half swords from the late Medieval to early Renaissance (14th–16th centuries). I can tell this from the circular disc-like shape of the pommel and the shape of the tang and grip, which is covered in cord.
Can you tell me how much this sword weighs and if the grip and guard are one piece or two? Your answers will help me identify if this is a valuable original or less expensive but faux-antiqued reproduction?
Thanks,
Delia
