I believe this to be an Original M.C. Escher - Drawing Hands Lithograph. First print 1948. (See Wikipedia) Material: Wood Frame & Glass Condition: The Frame has scratches or scuff marks and the painting was dropped. The glass chipped hairline but then was taken to a glass cutter for a quick fix. So the glass is uneven on one side. Height: 24 inches / Width: 27.5 inches. I do apologize for the quality of the pictures as I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone. (Please Note If you have any questions just ask.)
I inherited this from my father and it was inside my bedroom growing up as a teenager in the 90's. It's been in my closet ever since I moved out. My father was born in 1945 & was a Vietnam veteran stationed in Ramstein, Germany during the war. He purchased a Joan Miro - Entitled Woman in Front of the Sun (See my other Listings) from a private collection in Geneva, Switzerland when he was there. Not sure if he bought it in the same time frame or acquired it in the States. How the frame got damaged I have no idea. Wondering if I should have some sort of restoration done on the frame & have the glass replaced or just leave it all in it's original condition.
Dear Rita,
Thank you for your request. Please add more detailed and focused images. Thank you.
With best regards,
Georg
Dear Rita,
It would be best when you remove the frame. I am sorry that the apprizal of this print is not that easy.
With best regards,
Georg
Just wanted to give you a small update. I will be taking this to a framing place & have them open it so I can take some pictures. I will also have the frames backing replaced. This will be next week.
Thanks again,
Rita Cotter
Hello Rita,
Thank you for the images. Let's wait with the appraisal when we have all the needed information?
With kind regards,
Georg
Hi, Georg here are two new pictures. Unfortunately this just a reproduction print. Also who do I contact to sell the rest of the artworks that I have had appraised on this site?
Dear Rita,
That are unfortunate news. Nevertheless, we owe you an appraisal.
This is a reproduction print of the famous print "Drawing Hands" by Escher made by Reprinter Reproductions van Dooren bv Vlaadingen in 1970s.
An estimation would be between 20 to 40 USD.
I contact the back office regarding the other objects.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hi, Georg I tried to get a better camera but couldn't. Once again the camera is bad plus that glass itself is cloudy because of it's age. I looked online at other Escher works & his signature would normally be on the bottom left. If this indeed an original frame I wouldn't want to damage it. What should I do from here?
