Dear Allison,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a giclee print on canvas with the measurements of 19.5 x 15.5 inches. This print depicts probably Jazz musicians and is signed by hand by Marvin POSEY (1964-2003).
Artworks of this artist were recently offered and sold on the international and national auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 50 to 100 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Dear Allison,
Thank you for your email and I wish you a Happy New Year. I am sorry that you are frustated by the estimate.
We adapt our estimations to actual and reached auction results of the last years. This process mirrors a comparative value and mirrors and actual market situation. This means also that an object should not just be adapted to the highest hammer prices and you also have to see the mid-range and low range hammer prices to define an adequate estimate.
The Giclee technique is a print technique which means this artwork is a multiple or print.
With kind regards,
Georg
I’m a little frustrated. I contacted your company for an accurate appraisal. Based on my own research, similar giclee pieces by Posey are selling for 1500-3000. I purchased the piece for 250 in 2001 and from what I have learned, giclees typically increase in value.
