This clock is 18.5” wide, 6” deep and 15” to the top of the statue’s head. It’s very heavy, probably 30+ lbs. The statue, Clock, casing and legs are metal but looking under it looks like cement up inside. The Clock works and chimes on the hour and half hour. It has a pendulum that hangs down inside the base.
I was given this clock by my grandparents who lived in Walpole, Mass. They are both passed away and no one seems to know anything about where this clock came from.
This is antique, 19th century, Victorian era, Civil War era American mantle clock that was produced in Boston, Massachusetts by Shreve, Stanwood & Company which was active under this name from 1860 - 1869. The base is actually a black slate marble, not metal and it is weighted (the 'cement' filling). The cast metal figural atop, possibly imported by Shreve-Stanwood from France, is a depiction of a Classical Greek Scholar, likely Pythagoras. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables.
