This is a late 19th to early 20th century tea 'butler' side table by Maple & Co of Tottenham Court Rd in London, England. This mahogany side table is done with a bi-fold opening top containing a removable glass tray, over a storage receptacle over French Provincial Louis style cabriole legs. It is more unique tea serving table with notated patented elements used for its construction. Maple & Co was established in the early 19th century by John Maple and their furniture graced the homes of the aristocracy throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras. WWII saw the beginning of the decline to the firm which became Maple, Waring & Gillow in the 1980s and taken over wholly by 1997 by retailer Allders. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
I have never opened the storage compartment..there are two metal pieces that protrude from the underneath compartment but I am unable to figure out how to open this section. Thank you.
Perhaps it slides forward, like a drawer without a handle?
I do not think so the way it is configured but will check when I have help in the home..do not want to tip it over without assistance
as it is heavy..Thank you
Please also add images that show the central storage compartment with the secondary top open.
