Marked Chinese tea storage
25 November 2019
Description

I believe this is a tea holder. It is about 8 inches tall and 5 inches wide and 6 inches across. It is marked on the top and in theory is from the 50s to the 70d

What does this mean?

Dear Chris,

You have a Chinese storage jar. Maybe indeed for tea but could also be for something else. It's made for export to the ''west'' ( Europe / USA ) and is not very old. I would say 1970 / 1980. Marking is a stamp and not relevant for the piece; Chinese marks usually do not express a period of making but more a sign of respect for older emperors or just a habit / add value to an object. Mark & period pieces are quite rare, in older days only with the approval of the emperor you could use his reign mark. Nice pot but not very rare, I see tem passing by quite often.
