Mastodon (Mammut americanum) Molar, Cheek Tooth, Semi-Fossil
This is a mastodon tooth that my father found in 1978 walking along the bank of the Sulfur riverbed in Texas. It is in really great condition it has all the enamel several cavities the entire root system. It’s made of calcium and enamel.

The herd animals, Mammut Americanum, grazed the wooded regions of North America and were later hunted by Paleo-indians. They disappeared between ten to twelve thousand years ago. While a mastodon molar is not an uncommon find, it is rare to discover such a great example in full form. From images, the example appears to be a whole molar with the wider base area as the front and the area with the most wear facing the exterior of the animal's mouth. Clear of matrix and detritus; a possible polish to the surface. Without fills or repairs. Beautiful coloration of hues of red, pinks, and cream; absorbed from the minerals that surrounded it until it discovery in 1978. Dimensions: Height 5.75 inches (crown to root) x Length 7 inches x Width 6 inches. x 4 inches Height. Unknown weight.
