MCM wood sectional sofa, two pieces. No brand marking to be found. Frame is in very good condition with very few blemishes. We have all the original fagas straps. The cushions/upholstery are original with some wear and tear. My grandparents bought the pieces in the late 40’s in CA.
Each sofa: 47” wide, 32.5” deep, 34” high
Hi Emily,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This sectional sofa looks very much like ones by Huntsville, made in the 1960s, but if their history of having been purchased by your grandparents in CA in the 1940s is true (often-times, family histories get muddled accidentally), these would not be by Huntsville.
The Midcentury Modern furniture market pays greater attention and prices for signed/stamped/labeled pieces with all the original cushions, etc. I can't tell if the cushions are original (there would likely be some discoloration on the undersides to show some oxidation from the slats on the bottom) but will assume that they are, making this unattributed teak sectional sofa worth $800-1,200 (if the cushions are replaced, the value drops to $500-800; if this was labeled it would be $1,000-1,500+ at auction).
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Midcentury Modern teakwood two-part sectional sofa
unattributed maker, circa 1940s
The squared from with arms at one end, spindle backs and slat bottoms, presumably unmarked, with original brick-red/brown wool upholstery.
Each sofa: Height: 34 inches; width: 47 inches; depth: 32-1/2 inches
CONDITION: This appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$800-1,200*
