What does this mean?

Hello!
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal.
Considering the photos, this item is:

A beautiful medieval European sword (41-1/2”). This piece of history is certainly well preserved despite its visible signal of aging and oxide. It features a steel blade with ribbed wooden grip and iron cross-guard and completed with iron pommel having concentric circle design. Judging from the pictures the grip appears to be original, which is extremely rare and the pommel and cross guard are in fair condition. No tests have been carried out on this sword.

The blade is an example of an Oakeshott Type XV - XVIIIa with insignia. It's balance is superb, creating an exceptional fighting sword with fearsome cutting ability and excellent point control for the thrust, and constructed for battle, the grip and furniture bear the marks of extensive use.

Provenance unknown and no documents providing its origins.

PROVENANCE: Unknown.
$ 300 - 600

*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
