iron sword - good condition
39"x8"
Hi Jeanne,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The Gothic revival period at the end of the 19th Century sparked a revitalization of all things medieval, including Knights Templar swords; I'm quite certain this is one such sword, of which there were many made.
The condition of this sword is poor and will negatively affect its value; if it were in good condition (ie, not as oxidized or rusty), it would be worth $400-600 but in its current condition, it is worth $200-300
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Gothic Revival Knights Templar iron sword replica
unattributed maker, late 19th Century
The hilt with circular pommel and striated grip, shaped cross-guard with chappe engraved with crosses, a double-sided ridged blade. Unsigned.
39 inches overall length.
CONDITION: Extensively oxidized, lacking scabbard.
PROVENANCE: Unknown
$200-300*
