All quarter sawn oak. Trestle construction base with mortice and tenon joints. Thin and long aspect. Too tall to be a comfortable desk. May be able to break down. Top is screwed to long beams beneath through holes in the beams. Have not found markings. Top was probably refinished by stain to near black, all other surfaces dark brown. Original finish? Medullary rays are very pronounced. All surfaces are somewhat rough. More rustic than fine. Wonder if it was outdoors or sand blasted at some time? Has lovely carved medallions on all surfaces. In the long trestle beneath and the angled ends plates are piercings through the medallions so that light passes through. My grandmother bought this (not inherited) and was using it as a desk when I was a toddler (1958). I am guessing she found it while on a visit to SW USA. My Dad and Grandmother were great lovers of SW furniture and art. She was born around 1903 and worked in advertising in the depression years. My sense is it had been in her possession for some time when I was a boy.
Details in description. Bought by grandmother. Used as a desk when I was a toddler in the 1950's. It cold have been old or new when she bought it, that info is lost.
