This is a statue of a Mexican woman carrying a statue, and it is white, but I am unsure as to what kind of material it is made of. It was given to me, but I am hoping to sell it for a good price.
33 inches tall, by 9 1/2 inches wide at the top to 4 1/2 inches, to approx 8 1/2 inches in diameter at the base.
Hi Nora,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
While it's hard to be 100% positive from a photo, this looks like it's made of plaster, which would have been poured into a mold and hollow cast. Most were inexpensively produced and now sell between $200 and $300 at auction.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Classical style cast plaster water-carrier
made in Mexico, 20th Century
The standing figure in contrapposto wearing a classical-style draped garment, holding aloft a double-handled urn on her right shoulder, on a naturalistically modeled domed base, stamped HECHO EN MEXICO underneath.
Height: 33 inches; diameter of base: 8-1/2 inches
CONDITION: This appears to be in good condition.
PROVENANCE: Unknown
$ 200-300*
