Hello Michael,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Kerman Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1940 to 1960. The piece was definetely produced before 1978 as in 1979 the symbol of Iran was changed and imperial emblems were prohibited while your piece's label on it's back is crowned by a Persian Imperial Emblem. The piece is a Kerman Rug with a central decoration constructed by the use of a central medallion. The central medallion is florally decorated. The floral decorations are small in scale and very heavy in terms of density. This is a traditional style in Kerman pieces. The central area was knotted on a blue base while the borders of the piece were decorated on a red base accopanied by onion dome shapes on the edges which were knotted on a black base. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. The knot density of the piece appears to be average to high and the motifs were therefore rendered in good quality and clearly. Knotted wool on cotton. The piece is in fair condition with some visible loss to various areas as well as signes of use and age.
