I have an amazing piece of Lego history that very few know even existed. In the 80’s I used to work for a London advertising agency who one of its clients was Lego. They were commissioned to do a campaign for Lego and made a life size model of Michael Jackson out of Lego with the caption “ amazing what you can make out of plastic these days” in the 80’s Micheal denied having any plastic surgery so it was a very controversial subject. An article was written in the Lego magazine “Bricks N Pieces’ with pictures of the model and micheal’s camp caught wind of it and wrote a letter to the ad agency (which was a cease and desist letter) threatening to sue the agency should they continue with the campaign. Lego lost their bottle and ordered the campaign to be pulled before it even saw the light of day. The model was destroyed, or so they thought. The campaign director kept a copy of the campaign advertisement, along with the letter and the bust of the model as a trophy on his desk. Just before he left the agency (ok, sacked lol) it was gifted to me. I was a big Jackson fan and I intended to write to Never lands in an attempt to meet Micheal. This never happened. Fast forward to 2014, I rediscovered the bust and wrote a post on a Lego forum called BrickHeads exposing the abandoned campaign. My post disappeared (I. Ow k ow it was removed by admin of the site as they thought I was lying about it. A member of the group did some research and confirmed my story with Lego who told him the model was destroyed. A few weeks ago I come across the box again at the back of my garage and pulled it back out. I would like to showcase it at your K2 Lego event if you are interested.
