I bought this sword over 20 years ago in Kuwait City. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get/understand all of the information on it. I have done a lot of research on and off for years that keeps me going in circles.
I have heard a lot of different "opinions" on the sword. It seems to get attention but no real information. I have heard everything from Turkish Ottoman Empire to Syrian in the 1980's.
Dear Michael,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be s sword which follows the typus of the Ottoman Kilij sword. This elaborated sword was probably made after older pieces in the 20th century or it is party from the 19th century and was overworked. The inlay decor and the surface of the blade are hints for this dating.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 300 to 700 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
