José María mijares habanera collection excellent condition oil on canvas
20x24
Dear Gustavo Sardina,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. From the images provided, your work appears to be an oil painting on canvas. The composition depicts a stylized female figure wearing a dress and large red hat in front of a decorated wall. The work is signed to the lower right by artist José María Mijares (Cuban, 1921 - 2004). It measures 20 x 24 inches. From the photograph provided, the work appears to be in good condition, but may require closer inspection.
Mijares began studying art at a young age when he received a scholarship to attend the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts. His artistic influences were the artists of the Havana School. In the late 1950s, Mijares became a member of the now-called "Los Diez" who were heavily focused on geometric abstraction and concretism. Mijares has a strong sales record and his works appear regularly, though not too frequently on the market. Of his past sales, the works of pure geometric abstraction reach much higher hammer prices than his other works. Analyzing most recent sales trends, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $500 and $1,000.
Thank you again for your appraisal submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
